Cleaning a Diverse Range of Rugs in an Eclectic Neighbourhood
Notting Hill is a neighbourhood in West London famous for its diverse range of residents and homes. We love picking rugs up in this area because we’re often presented with some very rare and interesting carpets.
A rug can tell you a lot about it’s owner and this is especially true in Notting Hill. Residents can range from young room sharing hipsters with small antique tribal trappings to chauffeur driven CEOs with huge silk carpets.
Kazak or Kashan – Two Very Different Rugs, Both Washed for Notting Hill Residents.
The Pak-Caucasian rug, below-left, (also referred to as a modern Kazak) is one that we washed for a resident living near Portobello Market. It’s a rug that portrays new and old because it’s a modern weaving made in Pakistan, probably by Afghan migrants, who have borrowed classic geometric designs from the Caucuses and North West Persia. It’s made from wool, on a cotton foundation, which has been acid washed after weaving to give it a striking lustre.
The Persian rug on the right is from Kashan in the province of Isfahan, Iran. This also belongs to a resident who required rug cleaning in Notting Hill, however it couldn’t be more different from the rug on the left. It’s much finer, made from 100% silk, and has a curvilinear design.
We washed these rugs in different ways. We had to take into account their unique attributes in order to clean them both thoroughly and safely.

Every Rug has an Achilles Heel..
No two hand knotted rugs are the same. Every rug has it’s own history and usually there is an achilles heel which needs to be addressed in the wash process. Kazak rugs are subject to pile sprouting and the reds can bleed. Silk Kashans can scar if too much water pressure is applied directly. And any of the two could be hiding damage which needs to be considered before dusting and washing can begin.

Testimonials by Clients in Notting Hill
“I’m extremely impressed with the way you conduct your business. My silk rugs, which I thought were beyond restoration, now look like new.”
Elizabeth Cawkwell – Lansdowne Road, Notting Hill, W11
“Dear Nick and Dasos, I’m so glad that I chose your company. You came well recommended and yet I’m still astounded at the super level of service I’ve received from you. You’ve gone above and beyond what I expected. I’d almost given up trying to have the dog urine odour removed from my rug after two other companies failed to make an improvement. The second company actually made it worse. You not only managed to return my rug smelling fresh and clean but also carried out a small repair for free which I hadn’t realised was needed. Please feel free to use my testimonial. I hope it brings you many new customers.”
